Mediterranean Mediation MWNM

25-26 October 2017 | Rome (Italy)

The Global Platform for Syrian Students attended the foundational event of the Mediterranean Women Mediators Network, an initiative promoted by the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, and implemented by IAI and the Italian branch of Women in International Security (WIIS Italy).

The Mediterranean Women Mediators Network project is aimed at fulfilling the need to increase the number of women involved in peacemaking efforts and facilitating the appointment of women mediators at local and international level, thus reducing the networking capacity gap in the Mediterranean area. The network could be a catalyst for mediation efforts in ongoing and potential crises and post-conflict stabilization processes. It could also foster synergy and coordination among existing initiatives. Indeed, the Network strives for a coherent approach in close cooperation with the UN and the UNDPA-managed roster of mediation experts.
