The celebration of the International Volunteer Day 2019 at the University of Porto (UP) will take place from 2 to 7 December 2019. The UP Volunteer Week will include raising-awareness activities and promotion of active citizenship.
On December 6th at 15h00, the Conversation on “Changing the world through innovation and collaboration – a challenge within our power” will bring together ”President Jorge Sampaio (President of Portugal 1996 – 2006 & Chairman of the Global Platform for Syrian Students), Gustavo Carona (Humanitarian Doctor) and Syrian students who will share their testimonials.
This talk will be followed by a presentation of our amazing project of setting up a RRM - Rapid Response Mechanism for Higher Education in Emergencies – aimed at boosting higher education opportunities in crisis situations. Students and the academic community at large will be invited to join up this project through the YES! Fund a new tool to be launched soon. To know more about it, please join us on the 6 December.
A awards ceremony will follow recognizing the best achievements by students in the field of volunteer activities in 2018/2019.
Other activities planned during the week include solidarity markets and workshops on university social responsibility, volunteering, social inclusion and forced migration.
On December 7th, a Solidarity Walk will be organised with the support of CDUP (University of Porto Sports Centre). The point of departure and arrival of the walk is at the Rectorate (Praça dos Leões, Porto) and the registration fee is five euros. Funds raised will be allocated to the YES! Fund of the Rapid Response Mechanism for Higher Education in Emergencies (RRM). Students express your commitment to build a better world, show your solidarity and demonstrate that you to play an active role in solving problems across the globe. Participate in the walk and bring your professors, colleagues, families, friends and neighbours. Make the difference.
