Mr. Jorge Sampaio, Former President of Portugal (1996-2006) and Chairman of the Global Platform for Syrian Students was decorated by President of the Portuguese Republic, Mr. Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa, with the Grande-Colar da Ordem do Infante D. Henrique during the closing session of the International Conference on Higher Education in Emergencies - Doing More, Better and Faste - Doing More, Better and Faster - Doing More, Better and Faster.
President Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa presided the closing session of the event held on 5th April 2018 at the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation in Lisbon, Portugal.
The session began with the intervention of former President Jorge Sampaio, followed by the presentation of personal experiences by a group of Syrian students and an intervention by the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mr. Augusto Santos Silva.
Following these interventions, the President of the Portuguese Republic decorated the following personalities and institutions: Princess Rym Ali, Grand Officer of the Order of Prince Henry; Iqbal Riza, Grand Officer of the Order of Prince Henry; Carnegie Corporation of New York, Honorary Member of the Order of Freedom; Institute of International Education, Honorary Member of the Order of Freedom; Abdulaziz Saud Al-Babtain, Grand Officer of the Order of Merit; Helena Ndume, Grand Officer of the Order of Merit; German Academic Exchange Services, Honorary Member of the Order of Merit; and League of Arab States, Honorary Member of the Order of Merit. At the end, he decorated the former President Jorge Sampaio with the Grade-Necklace of the Order of the Infante D. Henrique.
